Weston’s unemployment rate fell to 4.1% in September, down from 4.6% in August. A year earlier, in September 2025, it was 4%.
Updated Oct. 29: this story first reported the August figures. It now leads on the preliminary September estimates, with the revised August numbers below.
The figures come from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Local Area Unemployment Statistics program. The BLS publishes a rate for Weston itself, not only for Broward County. The figures are not seasonally adjusted, so the fair comparison is with the same month a year earlier. On that basis, Weston’s rate was up 0.1 point.

Weston matched Broward County and Pembroke Pines at 4.1%. It was just under Florida’s 4.2% and just over the national 4%. Every rate in the group fell from August to September.
Over the year, Weston’s rise of 0.1 point was among the smallest in the group. Cooper City, about eight miles east, rose most, by 0.4 point. Plantation and Florida as a whole were unchanged. The national rate fell from 4.3% to 4%.
The numbers behind the rate
In Weston in September, according to the BLS:
- 35,315 people were in the labor force, down from 35,527 a year earlier.
- 33,875 people had jobs, down from 34,116.
- 1,440 people were unemployed, up from 1,411.
The labor force counts people who have a job or are looking for one. The unemployment rate is the share of the labor force without a job and looking for one. These are counts of Weston residents, wherever they work. They are not counts of jobs based in the city.
The BLS also revised August. Weston’s August rate stayed at 4.6%, but the counts changed a little: 35,236 in the labor force, 33,618 with jobs and 1,618 unemployed. This story first reported 35,288, 33,667 and 1,621. Plantation’s August rate was revised from 4.2% to 4.1%.
The past year, month by month
Weston’s rate ran between 4.4% and 4.8% every month from November to August. September’s 4.1% is the lowest since September 2025.

Because the figures are not seasonally adjusted, a change from one month to the next can reflect the season, not a change in the job market. The rate also fell from August to September last year, from 4.1% to 4%. There is no October 2025 figure. The BLS did not publish one because of the federal government shutdown that fall.
