The Weston races

Weston holds its city elections with the November general election in even-numbered years, the city says, and staggers the seats so the whole commission is never up at once. Each commissioner must live in the seat’s residential area, but all Weston voters vote for every seat. The Supervisor of Elections’ list of candidates and contests (PDF) shows:

Race Candidates (nonpartisan)
Weston Commissioner, Seat 3 Patricia C. Bernardini; German Melo
Weston Commissioner, Seat 4 Jaime A. Herrero; Alfredo Ortega

The same list has no Weston city ballot question. Countywide, voters will see three Florida constitutional amendments, three Broward County questions, including a quarter-cent sales tax, and a School Board question on a one-mill property tax levy. Read the exact wording on your sample ballot.

Early voting

Early voting runs Monday, Oct. 19, through Sunday, Nov. 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, according to the Supervisor of Elections’ early voting page. You can vote at any Broward site. The one in Weston is the Weston Branch Library, 4205 Bonaventure Blvd.; the office’s early voting flyer (PDF) lists every site, and the library’s own calendar shows early voting there from Oct. 19.

What to bring

Florida law requires a current, valid photo ID with a signature to vote early or at a polling place. Acceptable IDs include a Florida driver’s license or state ID card, a U.S. passport, a debit or credit card, and military, student, retirement center, neighborhood association, public assistance, veteran health or government employee IDs. If your photo ID has no signature, you will be asked for a second ID that has one. Without ID you can still vote a provisional ballot, the Supervisor of Elections says.

Registering for future elections

The deadline for this election has passed, but you can register or update your registration year-round through the Supervisor of Elections. Applications are also available at Weston City Hall and at county libraries, the city says. New residents should also see our moving to Weston guide.
