What happens

The YMCA describes the salute as “a heartfelt breakfast” that gathers about 500 veterans, community leaders and partners. Each year a decorated veteran gives the keynote. Every veteran who attends receives a gift that includes a challenge coin and a shirt, the YMCA says. Proceeds give veterans’ families financial help to use the Y and its programs.

The 2026 keynote: Capt. Charlie Plumb

Capt. Charlie Plumb is a former Navy pilot who was a prisoner of war for 2,103 days during the Vietnam War, according to the YMCA. He flew the F-4 Phantom and helped develop the Navy Fighter Weapons School, better known as Top Gun. His honors include the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts and the POW Medal.
