Curbside garbage in Weston is collected twice a week and recycling once a week by Republic Services, the city’s contractor, under the supervision of the Director of Public Works. Carts are emptied between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., so have them at the curb before 7 a.m. October is a bulk pickup month.

Find your pickup days

Weston does not run one citywide schedule. The city changed collection days when its new Republic Services contract began on June 3, 2024, and your garbage, recycling and bulk days now depend on your address.

  1. Open the city’s Solid Waste Collection Schedule map.
  2. In the “Find address or place” box at the upper right, choose “SolidWaste_Parcel: Full Address” and type your address.
  3. Click your property. The pop-up lists your garbage, recycling and bulk days.

Recycling is picked up once a week, on one of your two garbage days.

Setting out your carts

Homes get a 96-gallon garbage cart and a 65-gallon recycling cart. Only carts the city provides are collected. The city’s rules:

  • Carts at the curb before 7 a.m., facing the street.
  • At least three feet from another cart, mailboxes, fire hydrants and trees.
  • Close the lid. Garbage left outside or on top of the cart is not picked up.
  • A broken cart is replaced at no charge; an older 35-gallon recycling cart can be swapped for the 65-gallon size. Call Republic at 954-583-1830.

Republic’s Track My Truck tool shows whether your pickup is on time, delayed or done.

Palm fronds and yard waste

Yard waste you cut yourself can go in the garbage cart. Fronds that do not fit can go on the ground next to the cart, on the first collection day of the week only: if your days are Monday and Thursday, fronds go out Monday. Piles left by a landscaper or lawn service are not collected; the contractor must haul them.

What goes in the recycling cart

Put recyclables in loose, never bagged. The city says the processing plant does not take bagged recycling. Waste Management processes Weston’s recycling.

  • Aluminum cans, rinsed
  • Flattened cardboard; clean pizza boxes with no liner or grease
  • Milk and juice cartons and drink boxes, rinsed
  • Glass jars and bottles, rinsed, lids off; no broken glass
  • Paper, mail, magazines, catalogs and cereal or pasta boxes
  • Plastic bottles and containers numbered 1 through 7, clean and dry

Keep out: plastic bags and wrap, to-go cups and containers, hoses, wires and holiday lights, batteries, electronics, scrap metal, pots and pans, and anything with food or grease on it. “When in doubt, throw it out,” the city says.

Holidays

Weston collects garbage every holiday except Christmas Day. In 2026 Christmas falls on Friday, Dec. 25. If that is your day, your next pickup is your next regularly scheduled day. Thanksgiving is a normal pickup day.

Bulk trash

Weston homes get four bulk pickups a year, in January, April, July and October. The city is divided into sections, and each one is collected on its regular garbage day in a set week of those months (the first Monday, the second Tuesday and so on). Check your week on the bulk collection map or the Solid Waste Collection Schedule map.

  • Put items where your garbage cart goes, by 7 a.m. on your bulk day.
  • Leave three feet between the pile and your garbage cart.
  • Keep piles away from trees, mailboxes, cars and overhead wires.
  • Refrigerators and air conditioners need the Freon removed by a certified dealer first.
  • Wrap or box mirrors, glass tabletops and windowpanes.
  • Basketball hoops, bikes and other things usually kept outside are left unless you attach a “Bulk Trash” note or tag.

Not collected: contractor debris, household hazardous waste, televisions and electronics. Items missed on your day are picked up the next day. Need a pickup before your next bulk month? Republic does special bulk pickups for a fee: call 954-583-1830.

Hazardous waste and electronics

Paint, pool chemicals, motor oil, batteries, propane tanks, pesticides and fluorescent bulbs never go in either cart. Weston residents have two options:

  • Broward County’s Central Residential Drop-off Center, 5490 Reese Road, Davie, every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It takes hazardous waste and electronics; bulk and yard waste only on certain dates. Details on the county’s drop-off centers page.
  • The city’s free collection events, held each January and April at the Public Works Services Center, 2599 South Post Road, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 2026 events were Jan. 25 and April 26. Containers up to five gallons, 25 gallons a visit, and up to five tires.

Medicines: the city lists the Walgreens at 1735 Bonaventure Blvd. as the nearest DEA take-back site. Sharps: Pillbox Pharmacy, 1935 Weston Road, takes them in an approved sharps container.

Condos and apartments

Buildings with dumpsters are billed directly by Republic Services under the city’s franchise agreement. Call Republic at 954-583-1830 to start service; rate schedules are on the city’s multifamily and commercial page.

What this means for you

  • Look up your address on the city’s map; days changed in 2024.
  • October is a bulk month: check your week and have items out by 7 a.m.
  • The only missed pickup of the year is Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25.
