Six Weston elementary schools plus Falcon Cove and Tequesta Trace middle made Broward's Schools of Excellence list. Cypress Bay High dropped off this year.

Eight of the nine Broward County Public Schools campuses in Weston have been named Schools of Excellence for the 2025-26 school year. The Florida State Board of Education makes the designation, and the district published its list in a news release on its website.

The Weston schools on the list are:

Every district elementary and middle school in the city made it. The one Weston school missing is Cypress Bay High, the city’s only district high school.

The release’s headline says 50 schools across the county earned the title. The list printed in the release names 45 district schools.

Cypress Bay drops off

Cypress Bay was one of 46 Broward schools on the district’s list a year ago, which covered the 2024-25 school year. It is not on this year’s list.

The school still earned an A in Florida’s 2026 school grades, with 77% of possible points. It also earned an A in 2025 and 2024, according to the state’s 2026 school grades file. The district’s release does not say why individual schools did or did not qualify.

One other county high school on last year’s list is missing this year: West Broward High in Pembroke Pines, about seven miles south. Cooper City High, about eight miles east, is on both lists.

What the title takes

The award is for a run of results, not one good year. A school qualifies when it ranks at or above the 80th percentile among schools of its type in at least two of the previous three school years, based on Florida’s school grading system, the district said. The rule is set in Florida law.

Elementary schools are ranked against elementary schools, middle against middle and high against high. So a share of points cannot be compared across levels.

The designation gives schools “greater flexibility and autonomy regarding administrative, instructional and operational requirements, along with additional funding opportunities,” according to the release.

“We are proud to celebrate the schools earning this distinction and the students, teachers, staff and school leaders whose dedication makes these achievements possible,” Superintendent Howard Hepburn said in the release.

How the Weston schools scored

Country Isles sits in east Weston, but about two-thirds of the addresses in its attendance zone are in Davie, about seven miles east.

Charter schools

Charter schools can be designated too, but the district’s list covers only district-run schools. Imagine Charter School at Weston earned an A in 2026 with 84% of possible points. The state’s own list, which would show whether it qualified, could not be reached Sunday.

What it means for you

  • Nothing changes for families: attendance zones, bell times and calendars stay the same.
  • The title gives the eight schools more room to set some of their own rules and opens extra funding, according to the district.
  • To check which school an address is zoned for, each school’s page on this site carries its zone and feeder pattern. The Weston public schools guide lists them all.
